Our Wimbledon Chess Rising Stars club is led by expert coaches who are passionate about developing young chess talent.
We launched this popular junior chess club at our second venue, William Morris House, in January 2025.
Chess Rising Stars will also support more experienced children who intend to compete in chess tournaments and team matches.
Each week, we will offer a mixture of chess lessons, friendly games, and an internal tournament with plenty of prizes for the winners!
Registration is now open for the Summer Term.

Chess Rising Stars Junior Clubs
We also run our flagship Chelsea Chess Club on Saturday afternoons, which is recognised at Level 2 within the English Chess Federation’s Junior Development Pathway initiative.
Newer To Chess?
For younger children seeking to join the Wimbledon Chess Rising Stars club, we would advise starting with our Wimbledon Chess Club for 5 to 8-year-olds. Our experienced coaches will provide you with feedback regarding the club’s suitability and information about our alternative chess courses if required.
Rated Chess
In September 2025, our top group at the Wimbledon Rising Stars Club introduced a weekly ECF rated rapid game for children who are ECF members. In May 2026, Chess Rising Stars will run our second OTB junior tournament in Wimbledon.
Safeguarding
We comply with the Department for Education’s publication ‘After-school clubs, community activities, and tuition: Safeguarding guidance for providers’. Please read our Safeguarding Policy, Code of Conduct and Terms and Conditions.
Travel
An 8-minute-walk from South Wimbledon underground station or a 14-minute-walk from Wimbledon station.
Additional Information
- Beginners, intermediate and advanced players are all welcome!
- Trophies, medals and toys will be awarded at the end of term.
- The sessions will be taught by FIDE Instructor CM Tom Villiers with guest appearances from other experienced members of the Chess Rising Stars coaching team.
- Registered with the English Chess Federation’s Club Finder Tool and the English Junior Coaches and Organisers Association Junior Chess Clubs portal.
- Excellent local cafés, including at the Polka Theatre opposite our venue, for parents to wait during the session.
