CRS London Academy to announce its participation in the Junior 4 Nations Chess League
Chess Rising Stars London Academy are thrilled to announce its participation in Season 8 of the Junior 4 Nations Chess League Online with not one, but three talented teams!
The 4NCL is a prestigious team chess event in the UK with £10,000 in cash prizes.
As J4NCLO veterans, we secured the Division 3 title in Season 7 and were Division 4 champions in both Seasons 5 and 6.
Discover how our top students have consistently achieved impressive results at local, county, and national levels, and watch your child’s chess skills soar to new heights with exemplary team spirit and competitive camaraderie.
J4NCLO serves as an ideal gateway to tournament chess, and our experienced students have successfully progressed to compete over the board. All competing juniors are required to become members of the English Chess Federation.
We can provide an introduction to the world of team chess competitions for your child.

CRS London Academy Chess Camp in October was a Success
We are glad to announce that our 19th Chess Camp in October was successful and very much enjoyed by our students.
We offered a mixture of Chess Lessons, Friendly Games and an Internal Tournament with plenty of Prizes for the Winners!
Prizes were awarded at the end of the camp for the tournament winners, as well as those who showed particular improvement and enthusiasm.
The sessions were delivered by WFM Maria Manelidou, CM Thomas Villiers and Chris Russell.
You are welcome to join our Chess Club which is also held at the same venue of Marlborough Primary School, SW3 3AP.
Chess Rising Stars London Academy Begins to Showcase our Rising Stars
This is the start of a new feature where we will introduce our Rising Stars.
Student Profile – Aden K.
Aden was still in Year 1 when he joined the Chess Rising Stars London Academy in April 2020. Since then he has been on a mission to prove that age doesn’t matter one bit in chess. Aden continues to impress us with his enthusiasm and desire to improve. He loves to get involved during group lessons and is quick to share his ideas with the class.
For now, tournament chess has moved online and Aden has enjoyed many successes. Perhaps the highlight so far was a 5th place finish in the London Junior Chess Championship Finals U8 section, whilst still U7. We are looking forward to seeing his continued progress when over the board chess returns.
Kent Junior Chess Association have benefited from Aden’s services in the National Association finals at both U9 and U11. Of particular note was the gold medal Aden won for a 5/5 performance on board 12 in the U11s. A formidable achievement given he can continue to play in this age category for another 4 years!
Aden has taken part in our online clubs, camps and the in-person Chelsea Chess Club. He quickly built a reputation as a sharp tactician who loves opening traps. Plenty of our students have fallen victim to Aden’s sneaky Stafford Gambit! We think this is partly why his EvenSturdyAlmond account on ChessKid has become widely feared with its 70% win rate.
Together with his coach, Maria, Aden has been building a collection of his best games. We hope that one day they will make for an excellent opening chapter to his first chess book! Here is one of our favourites:
White: Aden (1768)
Black: AdiMit (1948)

Chess Rising Stars Summer Camp 2021
Our 18th Chess Rising Stars Camp took place at Marlborough Primary School in Chelsea, London. We improved our chess skills together from Monday 23rd to Thursday 26th August 2021.
It was a delight to return to teaching chess camps in-person. Our children (and staff!) had all missed playing and learning chess together over the board.
Our camps are open to children from ages 6 to 14 and of all chess levels so beginners, intermediate and advanced children were all there with us. We split up into two classes for the activities. This helped us to match children with those of a similar level of chess experience and ensure they all made maximum progress.
Lessons had a mixture of chess tuition, mini-games and sportsmanship advice. We also made sure to find time for a break but some of our students just continued to play chess outside!
Each day we finished with several games under tournament conditions. We awarded trophies, medals, toys and certificates to our fantastic students. Particular congratulations go to Brain L., who scored 8 out of 9, and was the overall chess camp champion and Nicolas T., who scored 4.5 out of 9 and won the second group. Hector M. was our most improved player for his 5 consecutive wins to finish the tournament.
The camp was organised and delivered by WFM Maria Manelidou, CM Thomas Villiers and Chris Russell. We had a great time and our students did too.
Our next Chess Rising Stars Camp will be held in October for half-term and we hope to see you there! Please do contact us if you are interested in finding out more.

UK Chess Tournaments 2017: English Chess Challenge Qualifier
THE ENGLISH CHESS CHALLENGE SEMI-FINALS (ECC)
This is tournament was set up in 2001 to provide a tournament of its own type where ALL of CCF’s trainees (plus others who wish to enter) can take part with a properly accountable structure and where no legitimate qualifiers would be excluded from semi-finals and finals they had qualified for. Click the above link to go to the English Chess Challenge home page.
In most cases, pupils will qualify through a competition held in their school during the Spring Term. In addition, the CCF Junior Club runs a qualification event and these 2 open events are there for those at other schools who want the chance to qualify plus anyone that wants a 2nd or 3rd chance. Anyone qualifying twice provides another entry for others (usually players from their own school).
The finals are in age groups with boys and girls split:
UNDER 18 BOYS……..UNDER 18 GIRLS (Years 11-13)
UNDER 15 BOYS……..UNDER 15 GIRLS (Years 9-10)

Following the semi-finals in early June, we move onto the finals on the August Bank Holiday Monday.

Leaders emerge at European Chess Club Cup. Alkaloid Skopje and Cercle d’Echecs Monte-Carlo are the leaders of the Open and Women’s sections, respectively, after five rounds of play at the 2016 European Club Cup in Novi Sad, Serbia.
Alkaloid defeated the strong team Mednyi Vsadnik from St.Petersburg by 3,5-2,5. The loss of Ding Liren to Peter Svidler was overturned by Dmitry Andreikin and Yuriy Kryvorucko.
Syberia remains in contention to defend the last year’s title after scoring against Ashdod. On the shared third place are as many as eight teams with 8 points each. The remaining two rounds promise to be very exciting!
